Winter Olympics: Kamila Valieva failed a dope test

In December, the International Testing Agency has confirmed that Russian skating teenager Kamila Valieva failed a dope test.

The 15-year-old was part of the team that won gold in figure skating on Monday, but the medal was not awarded due to "legal issues."

Russia's anti-doping agency has overturned his dismissal and allowed him to resume matches in Beijing.

But the International Olympic Committee is now appealing the decision.

According to the ITA, Valieva - who became the first figure skater to perform a quadruple jump in a competition - tried out at the Russian Figure Skating Championships in St. Petersburg over Christmas.

He was sent to a World Anti-Doping Agency accredited laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden. However, the results weren't announced until February 8 - the day after he won team gold but before the awards ceremony.

Valieva has tested positive for trimetazidine, which is used to prevent angina attacks but is on Wada's banned list. The Court of Arbitration of Sport will now hear the case ahead of his scheduled participation in the individual event, which begins on February 15.

Valieva was spotted training at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing and again on Friday.

IOC spokesman Mark Adams said he wanted a solution "as soon as possible," adding that medals would only be awarded after Cass' trial results.

The United States came in second, Japan third, and Canada fourth.

The ITA added that "a decision on the reasons, including why the suspension was lifted, will soon be issued to all relevant parties."
