Tribute to Oxford neurologist Professor Sir Colin Blakemore

Professor Sir Colin Blakemore FRS, who suffered from motor neuron disease, died Monday at the age of 78, Magdalen College said.
University professors and scientists specialize in vision and brain development.
Sir Colin is also known for defending veterinary medical research despite death threats.
"Very influential"
He once told the new: "There have been times when I have been shocked by what happened to me - razors in envelopes, bombs, threats to my children - but I have never doubted the principle of public engagement. In 2014 he was awarded the titled nobility for his research and for communicating the importance of the often controversial science.
David Patterson, head of the university's Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics, described him as "passionate" and "very influential."
He said it had "contributed significantly to our understanding of vision and how the brain develops and adapts." Born 1944 in Stratford above Avon.
