The Lathams: Indie Band Wigan Debuted As A Number One Album.

His album "How Beautiful Life Can Be Can" was pressured by competition from British band Public Service Broadcasting and North American stars Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lil Nas X.British bands occupied more than a quarter (28%) of the previous top charts in 2021 - compared to 17% in  2020 and 15% in 2019.

"It's going of take some time before it goes down," said vocalist Alex Moore. "This proves what young British artists with a pure heart can do, reach people with songs like ours, make friends at every opportunity, and discover that dreams can come true.

"How beautiful life is to see the good in everything, hold on to it and finally get through the tough times a smile. Today our smile couldn't be wider." According to a new study by BPI, British bands topped the album charts for eleven of 39 weeks this year, representing the UK recording industry. 

Other British guitar bands to have a number one album in 2021 include Wolf Alice, Manic Street Preachers, Bring Me The Horizon, London Grammar, Royal Blood, and You Me At Six. "New British bands have quietly taken off in recent years, but this trend breaks out in 2021, fueled by streaming and vinyl and fueled by a new wave of brilliant guitar bands from across the UK," a spokesperson said. Lathams also reached the top 20 of the album charts in July 2020 with a compilation of their first two EPs, but this is not an official album. They then made it onto the Sound of 2021 roster earlier this year when the band backed Blossoms in May for a fun government pilot in Liverpool, the first music festival to be held before the lockdown was lifted.

The album, produced by James Scully of The Coral, was recorded at the famous city studio Parr Street Studios. Elsewhere, Ed Sheeran Shivers' song continued to top the singles chart for a third week on Friday.
