Sheinbaum's commanding lead underscores the robustness of Mexico's ruling party.

While Claudia Sheinbaum was widely expected to secure victory according to campaign polls, the extent of her lead in the votes came as a surprising revelation, stated Gustavo Valdes from Mexico City.

Valdes suggested that Sheinbaum's potential vote share might exceed 60%, surpassing the percentage obtained by outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador when he was elected six years ago.

Representing the ruling Morena party, Sheinbaum embodies the significant political influence amassed by López Obrador over the past six years, Valdes conveyed to CNN's Rosemary Church.

Additionally, Valdes relayed voter feedback to CNN, indicating that having a female president could profoundly alter Mexico's perception as a "macho" country, where entrenched patriarchal norms impede women's advancement.

"Mexico has indeed revised its laws to encourage and, in some cases, mandate parties to nominate more female candidates. Consequently, there is now a much more balanced distribution of power among women in congress and gubernatorial positions," Valdes emphasized.

In recent developments reported by CNN en Español, Claudia Sheinbaum is on track to secure victory in Mexico's presidential election, potentially becoming the first woman to lead the country's government. Initial results released by the National Electoral Institute (INE) suggest that Sheinbaum, representing Mexico's ruling Morena party, has garnered between 58.3% and 60.7% of the vote, according to INE's quick count, a statistical method that predicts voting trends from a random sample of polling stations.

Xóchitl Gálvez, the candidate of the opposition coalition, trails Sheinbaum with between 26.6% and 28.6% of the vote. Jorge Álvarez Máynez, representing the Citizen Movement, secures third place with between 9.9% and 10.8% of the vote.

The validation of the presidential election results lies with the Electoral Court. If confirmed, Sheinbaum's presidency will commence.
