Orin Hatch, United States' longest-serving Republican Senator, dies aged 88

Orin G. Hatch, a longtime Republican senator from Utah, died Saturday in Salt Lake City at the age of 88, the Hatch Foundation said.
Hatch, who retired at the end of his last term in 2019, served 42 years in the Senate, making him the longest-serving Republican Senator in the United States.
"Senator Orin G. Hatch made the American dream come true," said Matt Sandgren, executive director of the Hatch Foundation. "Born to a Paris carpenter and plasterer, he overcame the poverty of his youth to become a United States Senator."
Hatch is also the longest-serving United States Senator in Utah history. He was 1st elected in 1976 and announced his retirement in January 2018. Referring to his past as an amateur boxer, he said in a video: "Every good boxer knows when to wear gloves. And for me, that time will soon be over. come."
Raised in what he called a "shattered house" during the Great Depression, Hatch continued to chair three separate Senate committees and stamped his stamp on important legislation across the political spectrum.
He is endured by his wife Elaine also their six children. The organization of the funeral will be revealed at a later date, the Hatch Foundation said.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox tweeted, "Utah joins the Hatch family in mourning."
"I only realized it then. Abbey and I are so grateful for our opportunity with this wonderful official. He has always been so kind and generous with his time and wisdom," wrote Republican Cox.
