Letsile Tebogo and Sifan Hassan Clinch Top Honors at 2024 World Athletics Awards

At the 2024 World Athletics Awards, Letsile Tebogo from Botswana and Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands were celebrated as the Male and Female Athletes of the Year, respectively. Tebogo's stellar performance in the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he claimed Botswana's first-ever Olympic gold in the 200m with a record-breaking time of 19.46 seconds, earned him the Male Athlete of the Year title. His achievements also included a memorable 4x400m relay, which set a new African record.

On the women's side, Sifan Hassan’s remarkable feat in Paris, where she won Olympic gold in the marathon and earned bronze medals in both the 5,000m and 10,000m, made her the first athlete in over seven decades to win medals in all three events at the same Games. Her extraordinary efforts secured her the Female Athlete of the Year award.

The awards, held in Monaco, also recognized other stellar athletes such as Mondo Duplantis, who continued his dominance in pole vaulting, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who retained her 400m hurdles crown. This recognition reflects not only the personal triumphs of Tebogo and Hassan but also the evolving landscape of global athletics.
