Buckingham Palace in the United Kingdom glittered with lavish decorations and royal guests as King Charles hosted his first Commonwealth party. This time the event took place at the Palace instead of the usual Marlborough House, the Daily Mail reports.
The monarchy was joined by Queen Camilla's consort, Prince William, the newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. In his inaugural Commonwealth Day speech, King Charles stressed the need to "listen". and "search for solutions"; a possible kick into the drama with Prince Harry showing no signs of reconciliation.
This year's theme was 'Forging a peaceful and sustainable future together' and the monarch highlighted how the Commonwealth can change the world."Whether it is climate change and biodiversity loss, youth opportunity and education, global health or economic cooperation, the Commonwealth can play an irreplaceable role in addressing the most pressing issues of our time," he said.

The Royal Family witnessed the event by entering the White Drawing Room where attendees eagerly awaited the King's welcome. The monarch maintains warm contacts with the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Baroness Scotland, and the Prime Minister of Samoa, Her Excellency Fiame Naomi Mata Afa, whose country will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting next year.
The King then goes to the Music Hall where he signs the Commonwealth Charter, a document containing the 16 core values of the "Family of Nations"; which must be respected by the Commonwealth. The charter was signed by Queen Elizabeth II on Commonwealth Day 2013.
