Actress June Brown, who played the popular character Dot Cotton in Eastenders for more than 3 decades, has died at the age 95. His family said it was "deeply saddened" to announce that his "beloved mother" died "very peacefully" at their home on Sunday.

EastEnders actor Adam Udiat described her as "an extraordinary woman." Dot Cotton is 1 of the longest-running characters on a soap opera and a viewer's favorite. Brown first appeared on the series in 1985, when Eastenders was formed.

She lasted until 1993 and returned to play the same character from 1997 to 2020. An EastEnders spokesperson said: "There aren't enough words to describe how much June is loved also adored by everyone at EastEnders, her loving warmth, intelligence, and taste. His great humor will never be forgotten.

"June created one of Dot Cotton's most iconic characters, not only on soap operas but on British television, and having appeared in 2,884 episodes.

He was nominated for the role of actor Leslie Grantham playing Dirty Den. By that time, Brown's career had spanned stage, film, and television, with appearances on Coronation Street and Doctor Who.

One of its biggest storylines involves plotting to kill Nastya Nick when her son, played by John Altman, plans to poison her so she can steal her big bingo winnings and use them for drugs.

One of the most touching and controversial moments comes when her close friend Ethel, who is terminally ill, asks Dot to help her overdose on morphine to end her life.

Dot struggles with her Christian faith but ultimately decides to give up the morphine pills that Ethel is about to take.

Her relationship with her husband, Jim Branning, played by the late John Bardon, is highly appreciated by soap opera fans. Brown has been a viewer favorite for years.

In the final episode, Dot Cotton - or Dot Branding - leaves a voice message to another character, Sonia Fowler, telling her that she has moved to Ireland. Following news of Brown's death, Udit - who has played Ian Biel on soap operas for 35 years - said: "I am speechless, something June never had.

"So many memories, so much fun. I am just pure and just an amazing woman who has had the most amazing life and career; I am lucky enough to share a small part of that. They never made you a woman (we tried), but you will always be Lady Brown to me."

Gillian Tailfort, who plays Katie Biel on the news soap opera, said: "I am heartbroken by this news. June Brown OBE, MBE is an amazing woman and a truly amazing actress. I have shared many scenes with her over the years.
