Singer Johnny Mitchell has joined Neil Young, demanding their music be removed from Spotify amid concerns over Covid's misinformation.

"Irresponsible people are spreading lies that take lives," the Canadian singer said in a post on her official website. Young said streaming platforms should vote for him or Joe Rogan's podcast on Monday.

In a statement Friday, Mitchell - whose hits include Big Yellow Taxi - said he was in solidarity with Canadian-American singer Neil Young and the "global scientific and medical community."

Neil Young and Johnny Mitchell have been friends for years, and both survived polio. Both contracted the disease in the early 1950s before a vaccine was available. However, unlike Young, Mitchell did not mention Mr. Rogan in his post.

However, he did include a link to an open letter signed by a group of scientists and medical experts criticizing Spotify for hosting the Joe Rogan podcast Experience Rogan. The letter accused Rogan of making a series of misleading claims and fueling mistrust of science and medicine.

He urged Spotify to "act against the disinformation events that continue to occur on its platform."

Neil Young, who is behind classic hits like Harvest Moon and Heart of Gold, accused Spotify on Monday of "spreading false information about vaccines - potentially causing the death of those who believe misinformation is spreading from the vaccine."

On Wednesday, Spotify agreed to remove its songs from the platform and said they hoped to return to the forum soon. He also defended his record for removing misinformation from the service.
