Halloween festival stampede in South Korea: 151 dead,
over 150 injured, many in cardiac arrest
At least 151 people were killed in a stampede at the
popular Halloween festival in the South Korean capital Seoul late Saturday
night. 150 people are injured. Some of them have suffered cardiac arrest. The
death toll may rise. National Fire Agency official Choi Cheon-sik said the
incident occurred due to congestion on a narrow street in the Itaewon laser
district.
A fire department official said that many people were injured due to heavy crowding in Itwan Laser district on Saturday night. A large number of people had gathered due to which 81 people had difficulty breathing. Out of which a problem like heart attack arose. An estimated 50 people were given CPR.
An estimated 1,00,000 people attended the area's first
outdoor no-mask Halloween event since the pandemic.
In regards to the incident, President Yun Suk-yeol has
ordered the response team in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu district to take immediate
action. Also asked to review the security of the festival venue.
Treatment is being done on the road itself
Some videos have also surfaced on social media, which
clearly show some people being treated by emergency services on the road
surrounded by heavy crowds. Meanwhile, the crowd increased to such an extent
that chaos ensued.

is celebrated to appease the ancestral spirits. On this day people wear scary makeup
and scary clothes.
