Australian tennis player George Cambosos Jr. unexpectedly surprised American boxer Teofimo Lopez, in New York with a double decision and thus became the only world lightweight champion. The 28-year-old won 115-111 113-114 115-112 with a referee card to claim the WBA, WBO, and IBF belts.

Lopez was dropped off at Madison Square Garden first, while Cambosos was sent to the big screen on the 10th. "I believe in myself; I support myself," said Cambosos, who was bleeding and bruised at the age of 24.

Cambosos, who has won his last three fights by doubles, added, "I thought, 'I'm going to strike him and hold on,' and the fight changed that (knockdown). I'm a great fighter. I can't believe how well I box." Before the match, Lopez had promised a first-round knockout, but it almost happened for Cambosos when he caught the champion with extension rights.

He continued to press, but Lopez showed his class in a very tough match. Cambosos scored in the seventh quarter with another big right hand before an uppercut caught Lopez off guard. At the end of two rounds, the challenger was beaten by a formidable combination from Lopez that put him on the silver screen. Still, Cambosos united in claiming a shock victory.

Enraged by the result, Lopez said, "I don't care what people say. I won this game." After suffering her first loss in 17 fights, Lopez stripped Vasily Lomachenko pound by pound 13 months ago in Las Vegas to add the WBA (Super) and WBO titles to her IBF belt.

His defense was severely delayed due to issues with the organizers and that he had to step back from the fight date in June after contracting Covid-19. Cambosos is unbeaten in 20 matches and was crowned by American Devin Haney, who holds the WBC belt in the lightweight category.
