England beat New
Zealand by 20 runs in the Super-12 match played at the Gabba in Brisbane. With this, they are now in
strong contention to reach the semi-finals. Chasing the target of 180 runs given by England, the New Zealand team could only score 159 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Glenn Phillips scored 62 runs for the Kiwis. So
Mark Wood and Ben Stokes got 1 wicket each.
Before this, England
scored 179 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs after winning the toss and batting first. So Alex Hales scored 52 runs. For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson got 2 wickets while Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi got 1 wicket each.
England's win has
made the Group-1 equation very
interesting. Now New Zealand, Australia and England have 5 points each in 4-4 matches of the three
teams.
Williamson's
sportsmanship
Mitchell Santner was
bowling the last over of the Powerplay. On the fourth ball he bowled a shot
length ball. Buttler tried to play it on the backfoot above the 30-yard circle. But, the time was not there and Kane Williamson took a
diving catch at cover.
After this Butler
started going to the pavilion. Williamson then asked the ground umpire to check
the catch with the third umpire. In which replays showed that the ball fell
from Williamson's hands while diving. After this Buttler was recalled and after
this he played an innings of 73 runs.
