Elon Musk has to cut every tenth job at Tesla. Some may have followed the results

Elon Musk had to cut every tenth job at Tesla. Some might have already looked towards the exit. The Tesla CEO's intentions told Reuters in an internal email are rooted in what he described as his "horrible feelings" about the US economy.

Some electric carmakers' nearly 100,000 employees may have already evaluated their options after Musk issued a request to return to the office this week.

In an email to employees Tuesday night, Musk threatened to fire anyone who doesn't work 40 hours a week, a stark contrast to the flexibility offered by big tech companies competing for the same talent.

The bureau's decision, coupled with Tesla's sharp drop in share price this year - partly due to Musk's expensive pursuit of Twitter - and his public conspiracy with Republicans, is a toxic mix for some employees.

"Tesla is starting its local Big Resignation," says Nicholas Bloom, a professor of economics at Stanford University, who estimates 60 percent of full-time employees will return to the office, about 10 percent will leave, and about 30 percent will find work. Other. Work.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Several technology companies, sensing the opening, rushed to attack.

Scott Farquhar, Australia's third-richest person and co-founder of software maker Atlassian, tweeted about expansion plans and flexibility. "Are Tesla employees interested?" he added.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, many technicians who are used to working from home or using hybrid policies are refusing to return to the office full time.

A former Tesla engineer told Reuters he recently took a job at Alphabet due to a lack of work-life balance, including the pressure to go to the office during the pandemic.

At Google, he only needs to come to the office three times a week, with some of his team members working remotely, he says. He said his friends working from home were "not less productive, but much happier."

Another former Tesla engineer said he was under pressure to work in an office during the 2020 pandemic and had contracted with Covid twice - before joining Apple.

Higher Compensation for Shares

The threat of layoffs and rollback orders came as Tesla engineers saw a drop in their share-based compensation. In addition, Tesla faces some of the same problems that plague other companies, such as the China blockade.

But investors are also concerned that Musk's $44 billion bid on Twitter is bothering him, even though Musk claims he spends relatively little time.
