Elon Musk hints at layoffs during his first meeting with Twitter employees.

He also addresses teleworking, freedom of expression, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

Mr. Musk spoke to employees for the first time since he started his bid for the company in April.

He says he can cancel the deal if he doesn't get details about fake accounts.

During an extensive video interview with Twitter employees on Thursday, Musk said Twitter's cuts would depend on the company's financial health.

"Companies have to do better. Currently, costs exceed revenues," he said.

However, he added, "Anyone who has... made a significant contribution need not worry."

He also said he would instead work from an office unless "someone extraordinary."

However, he did not provide an update on the takeover talks. As a result, Twitter employees took to internal communication channels to express their disappointment with his views on the business and team member compensation.

Mr. Musk, the head of electric vehicle maker Tesla and rocket company SpaceX, also spoke about extraterrestrial life, though he said he had not seen "concrete evidence of extraterrestrials."

"Can we travel to another star system and see if there are extraterrestrial civilizations there?" he asked, adding that the Civilization and Awareness platform could help.

A group of SpaceX employees- where Mr. Musk is its chief executive- called Mr. Musk "a common source of annoyance and distraction" in an email to company executives Thursday.

Meanwhile, later on, he was also sued for $258 billion (£209 billion) by cryptocurrency investor Dogecoin, who accused him of operating a Ponzi scheme to inflate his price.

The complaint, filed in New York, alleges that Musk "used his base as the world's richest man to manage and manipulate the Dogecoin pyramid scheme for profit, fame, and entertainment."
