Coldplay will cease to exist as a band in 2025.

Martin announced in a video on Radio 2 on Wednesday, followed by his Christmas show with Joe Higgie on the same channel on Thursday night. "And maybe we'll do a few more things together, but then the Coldplay catalog ends; that's how it is."

While Wee told fellow DJ Zoe Ball on his breakfast, show that Martin was "sincere" in interviews, but also "never sure if he was joking or serious."

However, his recent comments coincided with what he had to say about the release of his band's ninth studio album, Music Of The Spheres, which debuted at number 1 earlier this year.

Martin told The NME in October that they intended to record 12 albums [three more] and then quit. But his last conversation with Whiley was the first time he'd met.

He also told Absolute Radio that he envisions the band continuing to tour "like the [Rolling Stones] did; it would be great if we could do the tour in the late '70s."

Coldplay fans have responded to the news on forums like Reddit. "Before [the fourth album] Viva La Vida, they didn't enjoy anything but the career they had. I feel that you have a positive impact on music."

"They'll be back for more money in 2030 with a new drummer or guitarist, etc., just like all the other great bands before them," said another.

"You don't have to stop," someone else urged. "They just need to make music next to Viva La Vida. Then leave the rest for bad commercials."

Speaking to the recently, bandleader Martin said their next tour would be powered in part by the dance floor generating electricity while fans bounce up and down and pedal in place.

This is part of a 12-point plan to reduce their carbon footprint two years after the band promised not to tour until they could do so in a more sustainable way.

Martin said fans would be on the "kinetic floor." "When they move, they feed the concerts," he told the, Colin Patterson. "And we also have bikes that do the same thing."

Coldplay has pulled several appearances, including a planned show at the Capital Jingle Bell Ball in London this month due to testing positive for Covid on their tour. They were nominated for Band of the Year and Best Rock/Alternative Artist at the Brit Awards in February 2022.
