Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has received an apology from the publisher for alleged defamation. HarperCollins has published a book claiming that Abramovich bought London football club, Chelsea, in Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On Wednesday, the company apologized to Abramovich and confirmed they had reached an agreement. He changed the book and would donate, not compensation.

British journalist Catherine Belton's book, Putin's People, published by HarperCollins last year, claims another Russian billionaire, Sergei Pugachev, said Abramovich bought the club in 2003 at Putin's behest. In a statement, the editor said that Ms. Belton contains "inaccurate information" about Mr. Abramovich.

"While the book has always denied that Mr. Abramovich acted under someone's guidance when buying Chelsea, the new edition will provide a more detailed account of Mr Abramovich's motives for buying the club."

A spokesman for Abramovic said they were "satisfied" with the deal and said the allegations "lack of evidence and are simply not true".

"Contrary to what happens in the books, Mr Abramovich's ambition at Chelsea Football Club has always been clear and transparent: to create a world-class team on the pitcheague twice, most recently last year when the team beat Manchester City.
