Passengers on a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Florida witnessed a horrific experience after a bird struck one of the plane's engines, causing the cabin to fill with smoke. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing after an engine caught fire shortly after takeoff on Sunday. Passengers gasped after the cabin filled with smoke, oxygen masks were pulled down and parents tried to help their children.

Rodriguez said passengers have been provided with safety precautions such as masks, but they are of little use. "People started taking things into their own hands and violently banging on the roof to take their masks off," Rodriguez told NBC6."And people had bloody knuckles and stuff from hitting the roof. There were small children and elderly women on the plane," he added.

The plane was carrying a total of 147 passengers and a crew of six. All aboard the plane disembarked safely and securely at Marti Airport.The captain received applause from travelers after the plane landed.
