Brad Pitt is suing his ex-wife Angelina Jolie for selling her stake in the French winery they bought together. The couple acquired a controlling interest in Chateau Miraval in 2008 and married there six years later. Pete said he and his ex-wife had agreed not to sell their stake in the restaurant without each other's permission. But Jolie sold her stake to a liquor maker owned by a Russian oligarch. Jolie has not yet commented.
Lawyers for the Oscar-winning actor said the Chateau Miraval, which includes homes and vineyards in southern France, had "been Pete's passion" and, under his leadership, had become a "million-dollar international success story." Legal documents filed Thursday in Los Angeles said Pete helped ensure the viability of the vineyard, which is "one of the world's most valuable producers of rosé wine."
He said Jolie sold her stake to the Luxembourg-based refinery controlled by Russian entrepreneur Yuri Scheffler without her knowledge.
"He sold his shares with the knowledge and intent that Scheffler and his subsidiaries would seek to control Pete's business and undermine Pete's investment in Miraval," the lawsuit reads. His lawyer said the move was designed to cause "unjustifiable loss" to Pete, who was "putting money and equity into the wine business." The couple reportedly bought the Miraval house in the village of Cores in southeastern France for around €25m (£20.9m).
Pete and Jolie had been together for ten years before getting married in 2014. So it is with a heavy heart that she filed for divorce in 2016," the lawsuit reads.
