Benjamin Netanyahu
wins Israeli election: returned to power with majority, Prime Minister Yer
Lapid admits defeat; Will take oath for the fifth time
Benjamin Netanyahu is
once again going to be the Prime Minister of Israel. Netanyahu's Likud party
won 64 of the 120 seats during Thursday's final count. Netanyahu needed 61
seats to come to power. Let us tell you that for the 5th time in the last 3
years, elections have been held in Israel, after which one party has returned
to power with an absolute majority.
Here his rival and
Prime Minister Yair Lapid has accepted defeat after the counting of votes.
Congratulating Benjamin Netanyahu, he said he has instructed all departments to
complete the necessary process for handing over power.
How are elections
held in Israel?
In a 120-seat Israeli
election, whichever party gets the most votes has the best chance of winning.
Thus, the people of Israel never vote for any candidate. The party is voted on
their behalf. If an MP wants a seat, a minimum of 3.25% of the national vote is
required.
Netanyahu's coalition
has only 8 women
There are only 8
women in the Netanyahu group, as ultra-conservative parties do not give tickets
to women. It will be the first Knesset in 30 years without a representative
from the Druze minority, a minority.
Leader convicted of
racism seeks ministerial post
Ben Gvir, leader of
the Religious Zionism Party and Netanyahu's coalition partner, has demanded
that he be made internal security minister in the new government, which would
place the police department under him. He has also been a supporter of banned
terrorist groups.
