Key Sentence:
- Strictly Come to Dancing star Tilly Ramsey criticized the radio host for calling it a "soft little thing."
- The 19-year-old CBBC presenter said comments from LBC presenter Steve Allen were "a step too far."
Ramsey said people should be free to express their opinions, but "I draw the line when I comment on my appearance." After posting her statement on Instagram, she was inundated with support from her strict co-star. Allen had read comments from a listener who told him that Ramsey - daughter of TV chef Gordon Ramsey - starred in Celebrity MasterChef Australia and Strictly.
He replied, "Is that him? Well, he can't dance well with dance; I'm tired of him now. He's big, isn't he? Did you notice? His father is probably cooking, I think." Speaking directly to Allen's comments in an Instagram post, the 19-year-old said he "will not tolerate people who think it's good to comment in public and pay attention to the weight and appearance of others."
He said he tried to ignore what was written or said about him but "getting a call from a 67-year-old man on a national radio station was a step too far". Ramsey says he has come across comments about his past appearance, and the words can still hurt even though he is learning to accept himself. Two moderators are needed, writes Janet Manrara.
Ramsey's professional partner, Nikita Kuzmin, was among those sending messages of support. Last week the pair performed with judge Anton Du Becket in Paso Doble, calling it "the best dance of the season." Steve Allen has not publicly responded to Ramsey. Newsbeat has reached out to LBC for comment.
