Actor Gaspar Ulliel: The Moon Knight has died at the age of 37 after a ski accident.

French actor Gaspar Ulliel, who was set to star in the upcoming Marvel TV series Moon Knight, died at 37. His family told the news agency that he died on Wednesday following an accident in the Alps.

One of France's most famous actors, Ulliel, starred in It's Only the End of the World and Saint Laurent, biographical films about French fashion designers. On Tuesday, the actor was skiing in the Savoy region when he collided with another person.

He suffered severe brain injuries or was flown to a hospital in Grenoble, where he died the following day. The other skier was not hospitalized and is currently being evaluated. News of his death comes just a day after the trailer for Moon Knight, which stars him as Midnight Man, was released online.

"French cinema has lost a great talent full of charm and energy," tweeted French Finance Minister Bruno Le Mer. Writer and critic Caspar Salmon also paid tribute, describing Ulliel as "an actor of great charm, talent, and beauty who has built an impressive and varied career."

Ulliel is not only a movie star but also a model. As the face of the perfume Bleu de Chanel, this perfume was staged by Martin Scorsese for a 2010 television commercial.

Born near Paris in 1984, Ulliel appeared on screen at the age of 11 but gained international acclaim for his role as the young Hannibal in Hannibal Rising in 2007.

In 2017, he won Cesar for Best Actor – the equivalent of a French Oscar – for his performance alongside Marion Cotillard and Lea Seydou in It's Only the End of the World. In 2005, he won Most Promising Actor for his role in the World War I drama A Very Long Commitment, also starring Audrey Tautou.

Saint Laurent, one of two 2014 biographical films by French designer Yves Saint Laurent, is one of the films vying for the top prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Ulliel was praised for his performance but lost to the next Cesar by Pierre Nini, star of rival film Yves Saint Laurent. "Heartbroken," Nine tweeted upon hearing the news of his co-actors death. "Gaspar is virtue and kindness. Beauty and talent."
