A dying man whose friends have raised more than £17,000 to fly him to Glastonbury says he is very grateful to be able to grant his dying wish.
Nigel Stonehouse, 58, a former Hartlepool mason, was diagnosed with cancer in mid-May.
He was supposed to go to the Somerset Festival, which started on Thursday but was told the trip was embarrassing.
But thanks to his friends, he will be flying to the event in a helicopter with a medical team at his side. When the North Tees Hospital palliative care team heard about his love for the festival.
Mr. Stonehouse, who described himself as one of Fatboy's students, said: "I am forever grateful to the public for what they have done, and it must also be said that without the help of these medical professionals, I would not have earned a place on ward 25."
Actors set to appear at this year's festival include North Shields native Sam Fender, Billy Isle, and Paul McCartney. Stonehouse said she also looked forward to seeing her 19th Glastonbury "legend," Diana Ross.
Close friend Lizzie Begs said: "To be at Glastonbury with him one last time would mean a lot to all of us.
Emma Graden, a palliative care worker at the hospital, said: "I don't think she predicted how big it would be.
"He thought he was a little guy living in this small village, but his response was excellent.
"It's great to see the nation listening and helping. It's about being with friends at Glastonbury for this last special occasion."
