The Foo Fighters won three Grammy Awards in 2022, just a week after the unexpected death of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins. The band received the best rock album for Medicine at Midnight, rock performances for their opening song, Making A Fire, and rock song for Waiting On A War.

Host Jimmy Jam accepted the award in the group's absence "with prayers for their loved ones."

Hawkins died in Colombia just before the band played at the festival.

Local authorities said an ambulance was sent to the hotel after a man reported chest pain. The city health department said that he did not respond to CPR attempts and was pronounced dead.

Opioids, marijuana, and other drugs were discovered after the 50-year-old man's death, but it is not known whether they contributed to his death.

The Foo Fighters were concluded to play the Grammys this weekend. Instead, organizers released a tribute video to Hawkins, targeting the song Foo Fighters My Hero.

"Our thoughts are with the Taylor family, his friends, the Foo Fighters family, and all their fans worldwide," said host Trevor Noah. Popstar Billy Ailish paid homage to him during his appearance in Happier Than Ever in a black t-shirt with Hawkins' print on the front.

The Grammy Awards also honor Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim, who died last November at the age of 91, with his combination of songs. The Foo Fighters Awards are presented at the smaller "Grammy Premiere Ceremony" held before the main event on Sunday.

He also saw folk-rock legend Johnny Mitchell win the best historical record for their Archives, Volume 1 box set. The star, who suffered from a brain aneurysm in 2015, received the award personally with the help of his physical therapist, whom he referred to as an angel."

"I didn't expect it," he added, thanking his record company and assistant "that kept me on schedule." Previously, Mitchell was honored at Friday night's Grammys, including Herbie Hancock, Cindy Lauper, Angelique Kijo, and Stephen Steels, paying homage to their music.

When John Legend River plays, Graham Nash performs an emotional version of their folk-rock classic A Case Of You. Both songs are from their 1971 album Blue, often cited as one of the most outstanding records.

The Canadian-born star first told reporters on the red carpet that she was feeling "pretty good," adding that she was "making improvements" seven years into her recovery. He will reappear at the main Grammy ceremony on Sunday. More than 70 awards were given out in the evening, with many smaller genre awards presented at the "launch ceremony" before the big event.

George Harrison's 1970 classic, All Things Must Pass, won Best Limited Edition Package following its 50th Anniversary release, including additional recordings, jam sessions, and extensive notes. "The music is there for you," he said. "It's full of hope and compassion, healing, and rock 'n' roll."
